Product description

Superlum M-D,T,Q-series BroadLighters, the second generation of our D,T,Q-series BroadLighter light sources, are high power, extremely broadband, very low coherence AC powered benchtop light sources. The M-series BroadLighter is based on a combination of spectrally shifted single mode fiber coupled superluminescent diode modules (SLDs). M-D-series BroadLighters have 2 SLDs inside, M-T-series BroadLighters have 3 SLDs combined, and there are 4 SLDs in M-Q-series devices. The most wide-spectrum D and T versions have 3 dB spectrum width of up to 150-200 nm, and Q devices provide up to 300-nm-wide spectrum. Output power exceeds 15 mW in selected models.

For customers looking for the most broadband and cost effective solutions, we recommend to pay special attention to our UBB-series devices (ultra-broadband) which are characterized by a 6-dB spectrum width instead of a 3-dB spectrum width used for all other light sources. Although the spectral flatness may be up to 4 dB in UBB-series light sources, they can be successfully used in a large number of applications including Ultra High Resolution Spectral Domain OCT. The design goal was to cover the widest possible spectral range by the minimum number of SLDs combined. In particular, the M-D-890-UBB-HP contains only two SLDs which, when combined, provide a 6-dB bandwidth of 190 nm.

Most of models have two modifications, with and without optical isolators. Powerful ("HP") models with optical isolators have "-I" in the model number and are intended for use in applications where optical feedback may affect SLD performance.

Note: Models having "-I" in the model number contain optical isolators to protect SLDs from optical feedback. Optical feedback should not exceed -30 dB to ensure stable operation and long-life of HP-rated devices without isolators. Please also note that feedback exceeding -25 dB may result in permanent damage of SLDs and their very fast degradation. MP-rated models are sensitive to optical feedback similar to MP-rated SLDs of Superlum. The higher is the power, the more sensitive to optical feedback is the SLD.

Laser Safety Measures

Most of M-D,T,Q Broadlighters are Class 3B laser products according to IEC/EN 60825-1:2014. All M-D,T,Q-series BroadLighter light sources are equipped by the master key control, remote interlock connection, visual/audible alarm, informational warning stickers, etc.
